GCLS provides legal education throughout Gippsland

GCLS offers free Community Legal Education (CLE) sessions and workshops to community members and professionals. CLE usually involves our lawyers talking to community members or professionals about common legal issues to help them limit the risk and likelihood of those issues occurring. Our sessions and workshops are designed to be non-judgemental and engaging.

Legal topics for presentations and workshops

GCLS aims to be responsive to community need and may be able to tailor a session to your needs, even if that topic isn’t in our existing portfolio.

GCLS has existing resources for many legal topics, including:

  • Family violence
  • Family law
  • The intersections of family violence, family law and child protection
  • The Mental Health
  • Tribunal
  • The legal system and legal rights
  • Neighbourhood disputes
  • Planning law
  • Tenancy
  • The Victims’ Charter
  • Wills and power of attorneys

GCLS works closely with Gippsland Legal Assistance Forum (GLAF) to deliver CLE throughout Gippsland

GCLS works closely with our partner organisations to ensure that the CLE sessions and workshops we provide are available throughout Gippsland to the people who need them most. This includes working with our partners at the Gippsland Legal Assistance Forum, Djirrra, the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service and Victoria Legal Aid. This often means that we can co-deliver CLE sessions or workshops with those partners to provide a more holistic overview of the topic.

    Frequently Asked Questions

No. Our CLE sessions and workshops are free of charge.
When we can deliver a CLE session or workshop will depend upon the availability of our staff. The more notice we are given before a proposed session date, the more likely it is we will be able to accommodate that date.
The length of the CLE session or workshop will depend on the target audience and the time that you have available for the presentation. We generally recommend 60 minutes for most school sessions and 60 to 90 minutes for most sessions for professionals, however, we can tailor the presentation to the available time.
Contact us! If you’re not sure whether GCLS can help with your proposed topic, speak to us. We may be able to tailor a session to meet your CLE needs or refer you to another organisation that can help.
Contact us! We frequently present general information about GCLS at team meetings, usually for community sector organisations, so that you know how we can help and when to send us referrals. We will work with you to fit our general presentation into the amount of time that you can spare.
