Volunteer opportunities

We rely on the generosity, enthusiasm and dedication of our volunteers and currently offer a range of volunteer options: Legal; Internships; Intake/Administration; and Community Development.

Legal Volunteers:
Each Legal volunteer must commit to a 4 month placement, with a minimum attendance of 10 days over 4 months (approximately one day per fortnight). This placement can begin at any time of the year subject to discussion with, and approval from GCLS staff.

After demonstrating capacity in certain areas through a placement with GCLS, volunteers will be considered for participation in the Student Clinic and Evening Advice Clinic.

November - February summer internship: working full-time for 2 consecutive weeks.

NB: It may be possible for volunteers to undertake more than one two-week placement, however this is dependent upon work availability and number of applicants

June - July Winter Internship, working full-time for 1 week

NB: Only three to four placements will be offered during this period.

Internship requirements: students in 3rd year and above are preferred for internship placements. Previous volunteer experience, high developed communication skills and an understanding of practical workplace requirements are desirable.

There is an application process attached to internships, whereby volunteers will need to demonstrate why they are the preferred candidate for an internship (even if currently volunteering with GCLS in a day capacity).

Intake / administration volunteers:

These volunteers assist in a number of administration areas including data entry, taking phone calls and helping with special projects.  If you’re someone who likes to help others and have some time to spare, you’re welcome to enquire about volunteering with our service.  A minimum 3 month commitment, 1 day per fortnight is required.

Community Development volunteer

Volunteers assist our Community Development Worker to plan, deliver and evaluate events and education sessions. This can be an ideal placement for a student currently studying within the Community Development/Community Services field.  A minimum 3 month commitment, 1 day per fortnight is required.

To volunteer with us and gain hands-on Legal, Community Development or Administration experience, please call 1800 004 402 or email gcls@anglicarevic.or.au for more information.

To apply for any of these positions, please email your current CV and a brief cover letter explaining why you would like to volunteer with GCLS, indicating which position you are interested in.

* Please note:

1.         All volunteers are required to have a current Police Check and Working With Children Check. (GCLS can assist with these processes)

2.         Anyone currently volunteering or working for another Anglicare Victoria program is not eligible to volunteer for GCLS due to conflict of interest.

If you have volunteered with GCLS, we welcome your feedback regarding your experience with us
